Dendritic Cell Therapy Cost in India (2026): What You Pay For
Quick answer: Dendritic cell therapy in India is priced per dose or per course, not per tablet or vial, because each dose is made individually from the patient’s own blood. Published estimates from Indian medical-travel platforms start at around ₹1.2–1.3 lakh per dose. The total depends mainly on how many doses your doctor plans, the laboratory process, and the tests and consultations included.
Key takeaways
- Dendritic cell (DC) therapy is a personalised immunotherapy made from your own blood cells.
- Its cost reflects laboratory manufacturing for each individual patient, so it is priced per dose or per course.
- The total depends on the number of doses, the testing and monitoring included, and whether it is combined with other treatment.
- The evidence is promising in some cancers but still developing. Choose a provider that explains it honestly.
- Always ask for a written, all-inclusive estimate for the full course.
What is dendritic cell therapy?
Dendritic cells are the immune system’s “teachers”. They pick up pieces of abnormal cells, called antigens, and show them to T cells, training the T cells to recognise and attack those targets.
In cancer, this teaching process is often weak or switched off. In dendritic cell therapy:
- A small amount of the patient’s blood is collected.
- In a laboratory, the patient’s monocytes (a type of white blood cell) are grown into dendritic cells.
- The dendritic cells are exposed to tumour antigens and matured.
- The finished cells are returned to the patient as an injection or infusion.
Because the cells come from the patient, every dose is personal. That is the main reason the cost works differently from standard medicines. Learn more in our guide to dendritic cell therapy and Denvax.
What does dendritic cell therapy cost in India?
There is no government price list for dendritic cell therapy in India, and providers quote differently. Published figures from Indian medical-travel platforms start at around ₹1.2–1.3 lakh per dose. The total for a course depends on how many doses are planned.
When comparing quotes, check whether you are comparing like with like:
| What to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Is the price per dose or for the full course? | A low per-dose price can add up to a large total over many doses. |
| How many doses are planned, and over what time? | Courses differ depending on the cancer, its stage, and whether the aim is control or preventing relapse. |
| Are blood collection, lab processing and quality testing included? | These are core manufacturing steps and should not be hidden extras. |
| Are consultations, blood tests and scans included? | Monitoring is needed to judge how you are doing. |
| Is home collection or infusion available, and at what charge? | This can save travel costs for patients outside the city. |
| What happens if treatment is stopped early? | Ask about refunds for doses not yet manufactured. |
Why is dendritic cell therapy priced this way?
- Individual manufacturing: each dose is grown from one patient’s cells over several days in a clean-room laboratory.
- Skilled staff and quality control: cell counts, viability and sterility testing are done for every batch.
- Cold chain and timing: living cells have a short shelf life, so collection, manufacturing and infusion must be tightly scheduled.
- Medical supervision: treatment planning, infusion and follow-up are done by doctors.
How does the cost compare with other immunotherapies?
- Checkpoint inhibitors such as pembrolizumab can cost ₹3.4–4.3 lakh per three-weekly cycle for the drug alone (see our Keytruda price guide).
- CAR-T cell therapy made in India is usually quoted at ₹30–40 lakh or more for a single treatment (see CAR-T cell therapy cost in India).
- Dendritic cell therapy is priced per dose or per course, as above.
These treatments are not alternatives to one another. They work differently, suit different cancers, and are often used at different stages. The right question is not “which is cheapest” but “which is appropriate for my cancer, and what will the full plan cost?”. Our immunotherapy cost guide covers the full picture.
What does the evidence show?
Before paying for any treatment, you deserve a balanced picture. Here is what published research says about dendritic cell–based therapy:
- Prostate cancer: sipuleucel-T, a cell therapy made from the patient’s own antigen-presenting cells, was approved by the US FDA in 2010. In the IMPACT trial of 512 men with advanced prostate cancer, median survival was 25.8 months with treatment versus 21.7 months with placebo, an improvement of 4.1 months, although tumours rarely shrank.
- Glioblastoma: in a phase 3 trial of the dendritic cell vaccine DCVax-L, published in JAMA Oncology in 2022, patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma had a median survival of 19.3 months, compared with 16.5 months in external control patients. Because the comparison used external controls, experts continue to debate how to interpret it.
- Across solid tumours: a systematic review of 29 trials (906 patients) in prostate and kidney cancer found that tumour shrinkage was uncommon (about 8–13% of patients), but about half had their disease stabilised. Patients who mounted a measurable immune response were more likely to benefit.
- In India: India’s regulator (CDSCO) granted a marketing licence in 2017 to an autologous dendritic cell product for certain prostate, ovarian, colorectal and lung cancers.
- Safety: across studies, dendritic cell therapy is generally well tolerated. The most common effects are short-lived fever, chills and tiredness after a dose.
In short, dendritic cell therapy is a promising, well-tolerated approach that is most often used alongside standard cancer treatment. It is not a guaranteed cure, and no provider should present it as one.
Is dendritic cell therapy covered by insurance?
Coverage varies. Many Indian policies include certain “modern treatments” with sub-limits, but cell-based therapies may be treated differently from standard medicines. Before you start:
- Ask your insurer in writing whether dendritic cell therapy is covered under your policy, and up to what limit.
- Ask the provider for an itemised estimate and discharge or treatment documents that support a claim.
- Look into financial assistance options, including crowdfunding and charitable support.
Cost of Denvax dendritic cell therapy
Denvax provides personalised dendritic cell immunotherapy made from the patient’s own blood. Blood collection and treatment can be arranged at our clinics in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Patna, Dehradun, Haldwani and Chennai, or at home in many cities.
The cost depends on the treatment plan your doctor recommends after reviewing your reports. Every patient receives a written estimate for the full course before treatment begins.
Denvax is planned as an add-on to standard cancer treatment such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiation or other immunotherapy, never as a replacement for it.
Request a consultation and cost estimate or call 1800 123 1132 (toll-free). Our doctors can review your reports remotely.
Questions to ask before paying for any cell therapy
- Who makes the cells, and in what kind of laboratory?
- What quality checks are done on each dose?
- Which published studies support this treatment for my type of cancer?
- How will we measure whether it is working, and when?
- How will it fit with the treatment my oncologist has planned?
- What is the full cost, in writing, and what is the refund policy?
A trustworthy provider will answer all of these clearly and will never ask you to stop standard treatment.
Frequently asked questions
How much does dendritic cell therapy cost in India?
Published estimates from Indian medical-travel platforms start at around ₹1.2–1.3 lakh per dose. The total depends on the number of doses and on what is included. Ask any provider for a written estimate for the full course.
Why is dendritic cell therapy expensive?
Each dose is made individually from the patient’s own blood cells in a specialised laboratory, with quality testing for every batch. You are paying for personalised manufacturing, not a mass-produced medicine.
Is dendritic cell therapy approved in India?
India’s drug regulator, CDSCO, granted a marketing licence to an autologous dendritic cell product in 2017 for certain cancers. Regulatory status differs between products, so ask any provider about the status of the specific therapy they offer.
What is the success rate of dendritic cell therapy?
Results vary by cancer type and stage. Studies show it is generally well tolerated and can stabilise disease or extend survival in some patients, while complete tumour shrinkage is less common. Read more in our article on immunotherapy success rates.
Can dendritic cell therapy be combined with chemotherapy?
Yes. Dendritic cell therapy is often planned alongside chemotherapy, radiation or other immunotherapy, with the timing coordinated by your doctors.
